This chess club was organized in order for people of all ages and all skill levels interested in chess of North Little Rock, Sherwood, Jacksonville, Cabot and surrounding communities to be able to play chess locally.  We meet bi-monthly on the first and third Mondays at the Kroger Indian Hills Deli area at 6929 John F. Kennedy Blvd in North Little Rock from 7pm-10 and hold at least quarterly USCF/CXR rated tournaments open to everybody of all ages.  Check our Events page for current and upcoming events.

Whether you are a high rated player, intermediate, a novice or just a beginner, the NLRCC is here for you.  We want to do more than just meet and play chess  We want to provide the environment to help you learn, grow and enjoy the greatest game ever invented.

We are an offical affiliate with the United States Chess Federation (USCF), Chess Express Ratings (CXR) and the Arkansas Chess Association (ACA).  Adults and high school students must be members of both either USCF or CXR in order to play rated tournaments.  We encourage everyone to also join the ACA ($10 year) so that you are able to play in state and other tournaments.  Links to all three organizations are located at the bottom of each page.  Although we have provisions for younger children to play without membership in the USCF and ACA, we encourage that they become members of CXR (free or $7 a year for premimum) for the simple reason that as their rating raises, so does their enjoyment of the game.

To most of us older people, nothing is more gratifying than to see children learn and play the game of chess.  Chess is the game to improve cognitive functions and analytical skills that will be useful to them for their entire lives.  For this reason we encourage all parents to encourage their children to play, learn and join in the fun.  We will provide mentoring and teach them as well and provide special divisions in tournament play, or even hold children only tournaments regularly.  Chess is a great family activity!
